Cutting Taxes & Responsibly Managing Our Tax Dollars
Brian Stewart started mowing yards when he was in middle school, bused tables in high school, joined the Army after graduation, and built his own business once he came back home. He knows hard work and the value of a dollar. That's why he has always been fiscally conservative in managing our tax dollars, passing a balanced budget every year with no deficit spending as a Pickaway County Commissioner, and cutting taxes every year as our State Representative. Brian Stewart co-sponsored 2 state budgets which resulted in income tax cuts for Ohioans, an indexing of the homestead exemption to inflation to give Ohioans property tax relief, and the elimination of the Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) for the overwhelming majority of Ohio businesses.
Creating Jobs; Broadband Internet
When Brian Stewart took office as County Commissioner, the unemployment rate in Pickaway County was 9.3%. Working together with employers, state agencies, fellow elected officials, and community groups, Brian helped create more than 2,700 good-paying jobs in the county in 7 years. Brian knows what job creators are looking for at the state and local level, and he speaks their language. Brian is working to make this level of job creation possible all across the 12th District. A major component of this is expanding broadband internet to rural communities in the 12th District and across the state. Rural communities are being left behind when it comes to internet access, and no company will make significant investments where it cannot access the web. Brian sponsored HB2 which created the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Program, which helped fund the connection of 100,000 households to high-speed internet. Brian's legislation has also been used to provide critical infrastructure improvements relating to the massive Intel manufacturing center being built in central Ohio, creating thousands of new jobs.
Fighting for Ohio values
Brian Stewart has worked in the Ohio General Assembly to make Ohio the best state in America to raise a family. He co-sponsored successful legislation to give the Ohio General Assembly the authority to rescind executive-branch emergency health orders such as closures and mandates (SB22), the adoption of “Constitutional Carry” legislation to safeguard Ohioans’ firearm rights (SB215), and the SAFE Act (HB68) to bar biological males from competing in female sports and to prevent minors from undergoing permanent sex-change operations. Brian is a born-again Christian who shares the values of the families in the 12th District, and he will stand proudly, as he always has, for pro-life protections for the unborn, 2nd Amendment rights, religious liberty, freedom of speech, and for Ohio to always do its part in providing for a strong national defense, the security of our borders, and our American way of life.
A Partner for Local Governments and Communities
Local government - villages, cities, townships, and counties - is the most responsive level of government to "We the People." State government should treat local governments as the partners they are. Brian Stewart provided principled, conservative leadership in local government for 10 years, and knows the challenges and opportunities facing the communities in the 12th District. As State Representative, Brian has brought state resources back to our communities, and works with local officials to ensure that wherever the state can be helpful in resolving a local need, help is on the way.
